Draper relishing Sporting hot-seat

6:10pm Wednesday 1st February 2012

BROMSGROVE Sporting manager Keith Draper admit he’s relishing the pressure of the Victoria Ground hot-seat.

Draper is just two months into the job and after revamping his squad, has seen it carve out a six-game unbeaten run.

With the club in the Smedley Crooke Cup and still chasing promotion from the Midland Combination Division One, he believes the Sporting are going in the right direction.

He said: “I don’t think people realise how big a club Sporting is until you sit in the hot-seat.

“When you look at the ground and the fantastic crowds we get, it’s a big job.

“You’ve got to remember, the club is only 18 months old after starting again but there’s a buoyancy around the place now.

“We get a lot of people at training and the attitude is good.”

Sporting’s chances of topping the league are slim this season and would require Blackheath and Littleton, who occupy the top two places, to drop points.

The Victoria Ground go into Saturday’s league clash at Shirley Town on the back of an impressive 5-0 win over FC Glades, aiming to end their poor run of results away from home.

Going into the game, there are no new injuries, while Bromsgrove club also received a boost with the news Chris Bright is recovering faster than expected from his fractured collar bone.

“It’s the start of a tough month for us, Shirley are just below us in the table,” added the manager.
