Straw shines in Spain
11:00am Friday 3rd February 2012

A teenager from Barnt Green made an impressive debut for England’s junior under-20s when she came second in a cross-country race in Spain.
Becky Straw, 16, was selected to run in the historic 4.5-kilometre long Juan Muguerza Memorial Race.
Despite being the youngest member of her team, the King Edwards High School student ran superbly.
Straw took the race on from the gun and broke away from the chasing pack to battle a Spanish runner for first place, opening up a 50-metre lead over the third-placed runner.
With 2km to go, her opponent, buoyed by the voficerous crowd, edged into a 15m gap.
Despite not being able to close down the Spanish runner, Straw produced a late burst with 400m metres to go and finished just nine second, sealing a large trophy and 200 euros in prize money.
