Man sentenced to prison after Droitwich car key burglary
11:10am Friday 27th January 2012

A MAN has been sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison for carrying out a car key burglary in Droitwich.
James Darren Flynn broke into a house on Westbury Avenue between 11.30pm on Thursday, September 15, 2011 and 4.05am on Friday, September 16, 2011 whilst the owners were asleep.
Flynn stole a laptop and keys to a BMW 5 series which was parked on the drive, before driving to Worcester in the BMW.
The 27-year-old from Junction Road, Stourbridge, was stopped by police officers in the early hours of September 16 as he drove the stolen car along London Road.
At the time of his arrest, Flynn claimed he had come across the vehicle with the keys in it and had decided to take it for a ride. He was later charged with burglary and taking a vehicle without the owners consent.
In a two day trial at Hereford Crown Court, Flynn pleaded guilty to the charge of taking a vehicle without the owners consent but denied burglary.
A jury found him guilty of both offences and he was sentenced to two-and-a-half years imprisonment for the burglary and nine months for the vehicle taking offence. The sentences are to run concurrently.
Speaking about the sentencing, which took place on Thursday, January 26, detective constable Peter Ryland said: "We are pleased with the sentence James Flynn has received.
"Thankfully burglary levels in south Worcestershire are relatively low, but we hope this sentence sends a clear message to those involved in these types of crimes that we will not tolerate travelling criminals coming into our towns and villages and breaking into the homes of our residents while they are asleep."
