Bromsgrove and Droitwich team prepare for Indian adventure
4:02pm Thursday 2nd September 2010

THREE Bromsgrove and Droitwich friends are preparing for a charity rickshaw run which is set to take them across India.
Sidemoor resident Dave Anson, Phil Brookes, originally from Bromsgrove, and Matt Eastwood, from Droitwich, make up team ‘Bombay tricycle club’ which will be using the vehicle described as India’s answer to the Robin Reliant.
The trio are participating in the race which begins on Saturday, September 11, in Gantok, Sikkim, located in the Himalayas between Tibet, Nepal and Bhutan.
The team hope to reach the finishing point, Jaisalmer, in the Rajasthan desert, on Sunday, September 26.
Phil said: “To add a little to the excitement, we are making the trip in an rickshaw.
“There is no set route, if we get lost, break down, get upset, scared or confused it is up to us to sort it out and make it to the finish line.
“Apart from the adventure of it all we are also looking to raise lots of money for some extremely worthwhile charities.”
Amongst the charities being supported by the three are Frank Water, which funds sustainable clean water projects in developing countries, soldiers charity Help for Heroes and Maiti Napal, a charity which offers help and support to Nepali girls and women who are victims of crimes such as domestic violence.
All the money raised is being donated to the charities, as the three friends have funded the expenses of the trip themselves. So far, they have managed to raise £1,110, having initially set a target of £1,000.
Anyone wishing to make a donation can do so by visiting www.justgiving.com/bombay-tricycle-club.
Team Bombay members will be regularly updating a blog throughout the journey, which can be viewed at www.rickshawrun10a.theadventurists.com/bombay-tricycle-club.
